Welcome to Christmas Maltings Surgery, where we aim to provide an excellent standard of care in a helpful and friendly environment:

21st century medicine in a traditional and caring GP practice.

We offer a full range of GP services including minor surgery, blood testing, emergency doctor-run walk in clinics, contraception, joint injections, drug and alcohol services, chronic disease management, obesity management, smoking cessation and doctor-led minor injuries clinics. We have a 100 hour a week pharmacy on site and others close by in the town.

You can book your own appointments online to avoid the rush on the telephones or at reception. Before you book for the first time you will need to come into reception to get a user name and password.

After that, click on the title above or the link at the bottom of the page, and then follow the instructions onscreen.

Access for patients with special needs

The practice has access for wheelchair users and an adapted downstairs WC. Patients may be dropped off outside our entrance and there is an on-site wheelchair available.

On-site pharmacy

The pharmacy in the surgery waiting room- the Haverhill Pharmacy - is open till 11pm on weekdays and 9.45pm at weekends, and offers a full delivery service and repeat prescription handling. We believe these very extended hours are a great benefit to Haverhill.

Repeat prescriptions
Repeat prescriptions are now only issued for ONE MONTH.
This brings us into line with NHS and Dept of Health recommendations (and with other practices), and is part of the NHS drive to reduce wastage.
If prescriptions are issued for 2 months and then the prescription is changed the cost of the wasted medication can be enormous.
We appreciate patients would prefer to have to collect medication less often, but please remember that most pharmacies are happy to hold your prescription for you and to routinely dispense and even deliver your medication every month.
Remember too that a prepay form for prescription charges costs only slightly more than three prescriptions, and lasts for three months.
The NHS has HUGE savings to make in the next few years if we are to continue to have the service we do. This is a part of that saving. Please help us with this. we appreciate your understanding.

Saturday	9.00am - 11.30am
Sunday	CLOSED - out of hours doctor-led service operates

Parking

Parking is available for a minimal charge on the Council car park beside the council offices (behind the library). There is limited space on the surgery car park including a disabled bay for those visiting the surgery or pharmacy – please do not use the doctors’ spaces or obstruct their cars, which may be needed in an emergency, and please don’t leave cars in the car park whilst shopping!

Extended Hours

As from Saturday 7th January 2012 we will be opening on a Saturday Morning from 9am - 11.30am for booked appointments only. With a GP or a Nurse.

Urgent surgery

The Emergency Walk in clinic in its current form is unsustainable. Therefore as from 16th April 2012 it will be replaced by an allocated emergency appointment surgery which will be available to patients ( on the day) who need to be seen by a doctor urgently in the morning or in the afternoon.

Repeat prescriptions.
Please note, in keeping with PCT policy your repeat prescription will from now on be issued for ONE MONTH at a time. This is a National requirement proven to reduce waste on a very large scale.

Cancelling your Appointment

If you are unable to attend an appointment, please telephone or use the link at the bottom of this page to cancel your appointment.

By giving us as much notice as you can you are helping us to make sure that someone else is given your slot.

Test Results

Please call after 11am to get your test results from the receptionists.

Test results can only be given to the person whose result they are, or (in the case of children under 16 only) their parent or guardian.

The Summary Care Record - this affects you

Please read the section in the right hand column about the summary care record. This affects you and you need to decide if you are happy for your medical records to be uploaded to a centrally held record which other health provders can access.

Pharmacy

There are two pharmacies in Haverhill which open for 100 hours a week, one at Tesco's supermarket and one in the surgery building. Both supply medication to any patient, including those registered at the surgery.

There are four other dispensing chemists in Haverhill -

Sainsburys pharmacy is inside Sainsburys supermarket, the Coop pharmacy is on Mill Road near the Drabbet Smock, David Holland chemist is next door to the Clements Surgery and Boots is on the High Street. Opening hours vary and may be found under the heading marked pharmacy, opposite.
